Barbecue Thank You

Oct-23-2009 By Daddy

The barbecue fundraiser at Reelsboro United Methodist Church went very well today.  Ali and I would like to thank everyone who participated — those who purchased plates, those who helped prepare and deliver plates, and those who made donations.  The proceeds will help offset the costs of Adela’s hospitalization earlier this year and her continued therapies.  Please continue to keep Adela in your thoughts and prayers.

At Nana and Granddaddy’s

Oct-22-2009 By Adela

We drove this afternoon to New Bern to visit Nana and Granddaddy for the weekend.  Tomorrow is the big pig-pickin’ they have planned.  It is suppose to help Mommy and Daddy with some of the bills.  Hopefully it will all go well.

Fall Decorations

Oct-18-2009 By Daddy

We pulled out the fall and Halloween decorations today and Adela found a lot to play with.  She just loves pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns.  We now have a whole row of various pumpkin decorations lined up on top of our TV.  I think the best, though, are the two little trick-or-treat bags she now likes to parade around.  One is a white bag with a ghost face (her favorite) and the other is an orange bag with a jack-o-lantern face.  They actually belonged to David and I when we were little.

Gramma and Grumpa Babysitting

Oct-17-2009 By Adela

I had Gramma and Grumpa over to babysit today while Mommy and Daddy went out to lunch.  It was fun to have lunch with them and play for the afternoon.  Mommy and Daddy say I’m talking a lot more.  In fact, I can say whole sentences now, but I usually only talk to people I know really well…I can still be a little shy sometimes.

Visiting New Bern and the MumFest

Oct-12-2009 By Daddy

We visited New Bern this weekend since Mommy and Nana had booths at the MumFest (New Bern’s annual craft show).  Adela was very excited about both Mommy and Nana having “craft boofs”.  Mommy was selling “beads” (jewelry) and Nana was selling “garden fanfans” (Garden Fancies from her shop).  On Saturday, while Mommy was manning her booth, Grandaddy and I walked around the MumFest with Adela — the highlights for her were seeing the fire engine and the three horses that were there for the carriage rides.  It was quite warm and muggy on Saturday, so we only stayed for a little while.  That afternoon, Granny and Papa came to visit and afterward we had a giant family dinner — Mommy, Daddy, Nana, Grandaddy, Granny, Papa, Uncle OA, Uncle David, and Brandi.  On Sunday, Nana, Adela, and I went to church (she had a good time), then went back to visit Mommy at the MumFest.  Adela had fun having a picnic behind the Farmer’s Market then she, Mommy, and I walked around some more of the MumFest again (being sure to hit the fire engine and the three horses again).  By the end of the weekend, Adela was worn out and ready for some quality time with Mommy, but I think she had fun.

Back on the Formula

Oct-6-2009 By Daddy

We decided to put Adela back on her formula a few days ago since she was seeming a bit sluggish lately.  She never really bounced back from her cold to where she was before.  Before the cold, she was excited about trying new foods, was running (well, walking fast) around the house, and just generally in a very happy mood.  Since the cold about a month ago, she’s kind of fallen backwards in all three things.

It’s surprising, but the formula does seem to make a difference.  We started back on the formula Friday night and when she woke up on Saturday morning, not only was her mood better, but she was more active too.  That, and a better appetite has seemed to stay with her all weekend.  Of course, now we have to figure out why.  We can’t leave her on the formula because she doesn’t need to get too many calories (plus, we’re trying to move away from needing formula anyway).  But, if there’s something she’s getting in the formula that she’s not getting in her regular diet, we can’t not give her the formula.  Catch-22….

New Shoes

Oct-2-2009 By Daddy

Adela’s new shoes were delivered on Monday.  She had been wearing some of the classic PediPeds with the soft bottoms, however it was time for her to move to more of a traditional sneaker with a firm rubber bottom.  So, we ordered a pair of the PediPed Flex shoes.  They’re really cute.  It took her a little while to get used to them — she didn’t want to wear them for the first few days, but now she really likes them.  We have to be careful that she doesn’t trip since they’re a little different than her old kind of shoes.

Part of our motivation was because her physical therapist said that Adela isn’t bending her knees as much as she should.  When she walks, she actually locks her knees when she straightens her legs.  It’s not a major problem right now, but if she doesn’t stop soon, it could start to damage her knees.  Hopefully, the new shoes will help with some of that.

She’s enjoying them when we go for our walks on the trail behind our house.
