Nine Months of Growth in One Post
Hello everyone. It’s been quite a while since we updated Adela’s blog. We had originally planned for this blog to be updated quite often with news from Adela-land, however we quickly found that keeping up with Adela and everyday life trumped updating the blog. We’re going to try to fix that and be a bit more diligent about updating all of Adela’s fans on her accomplishments.
The main reason we’re starting it back up is because unfortunately Adela is in the hospital again and we’ve had some people want to follow her progress like last year through the blog. I’ll keep this post non-medical, but read the next one to get an update on how things are going.
That said, here’s what she’s been up to since our last post in January…
- Adela and Mommy have made plenty of visits to the Museum of Life and Science — her favorite animals there are still the lemurs. We made a few visits to the NC Zoo — they didn’t have their lemur exhibit yet so the otters and bats were the favorites.
- Mommy started a garden in the spring. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots from the garden have all shown up on Adela’s plate. Unfortunately, the most anticipated member of the garden — pumpkins — didn’t make it. With the combination of the dry weather and our vacation in July, the plants all dried up. We’ll buy some pumpkins for her near Halloween to make up for it…
- We had a good Easter in New Bern with Nana and Grandaddy. Multiple Easter egg hunts — one at Nana and Grandaddy’s and one at Aunt Shirley and Uncle Roy’s were fun (except when we were hungry…).
- Adela has visited me several times at work to eat in the cafeteria with my friends and I. She seems to really enjoy seeing where I work and playing in my office a little.
- Near the end of May, we started a little backyard project (patio and deck refresh) that turned out to be a bit more effort than we expected. Of course, we got part the way through when the weather switched to 90 degree days and we haven’t finished yet. Hopefully some cooler weather in the fall will give us a chance to finish up the work. Nana and Grandaddy came up to help and Adela supervised.
- In July, we went on vacation to “The Cabin” in Michigan. Adela had a nice fourth birthday party up there. While the vacation itself was nice, I’ve decided that someone needs to go ahead and invent Star Trek-style transporters to just do away with the three days worth of driving. We stopped at the Columbus Zoo on the way up (highly recommended) and the Toledo Zoo on the way back (a favorite as well…our third visit).
- Adela’s speech therapy is progressing well. She’s still a bit behind on her enunciation and articulation, however she makes up for it with her other results. Not to brag (however I’m going to anyway), when she took the vocabulary portion, she ended up scoring at the level of a seven-year old! And some of her other results were equally impressive. All of this just reinforces to us that we have to be extra careful what we say around her because she understands a lot of it.
Those are the highlights. Like I said, we’ll start updating more often (again) with how Adela’s doing. Don’t forget, we also try to keep up with posting our family pictures on Shutterfly, so if you’d like to see her smiling face, click here.
