More improvement and “foo” vaccine interviews

The latest lab results back up what we’ve been suspecting for the past few days…Adela is feeling better.  With the last batch of tests, we found that her nutrition is improving and inflammation is going down. Two of the key things they look at for her nutrition are her albumin and transthyretin (prealbumin) levels.  One

Adela’s “Status Report”

Since I’m used to creating and giving status reports at work, I suppose it seems oddly natural to try to summarize Adela’s situation to get everyone up to speed, whether you’ve been following from the beginning of her latest saga or you’re just joining in.  In essence, it’s more a combination of a status report

More steps in the right direction

Sorry for the delay in posting for the past few days.  From day to day, not a lot is changing, so just assume that “no news is good news” if we happen to not post for a day or two. Adela is feeling better today.  She has been progressively more peppy and happy over the

Slow improvement without steroids…just ham

It seems like I’ve been repeating myself with the past few posts…they’ve all been about slow improvement and ham.  Would anyone care to guess what this post will be about?  Again, a day of resting, antibiotics, and ham with some improvement. Adela is still on her antibiotics (although she’ll be coming off at least one

Slow but steady improvement

We’re not out of the woods yet, but Adela’s blood chemistry numbers are slowly improving.  For example, her platelets have nearly doubled from yesterday (from ~60 yesterday to 110 today) and her INR has dropped (from ~2.5 yesterday to 1.5 today).  Both of those deal with her blood’s ability to clot, among other things.  So,

A small step in the right direction

We got through the night without having to pack up and move to the PICU.  The lab results are all either improving slowly or staying the same.  The plan for the next few days is to just focus on nutrition (from TPN via her central line), antibiotics, and rest.  We’ll post an update if anything

CT scan and bloodwork results; the good and the bad

The doctor gave us the preliminary results from her CT scan last night around 1:30 AM.  The results show that there are no abscesses, which is great.  One less thing to worry about and one less possible cause of infection. However, the results of some of her bloodwork are causing the doctors concern.  Her hemoglobin

Late-night CT scan

Long day, late night, and, as such, a short post. We don’t know much more from the scope than what I already posted earlier.  Adela slept most of the afternoon, especially since they gave her a very low dose of Oxycontin to help with the pain from the scope procedure and the central line surgery.

Results from scope and a new plan

Adela is recovering from her scope procedure this morning.  Right now, she’s sleeping in the room with Mommy.  Based on what they found, the plan has changed a bit.  Adela had, in the words of the GI doctor, “just horrible colitis” (inflamed colon) with some painful ulcers.  It’s not necessarily Crohn’s disease, however it’s close.

I want some ham now…

In the midst of not feeling well, Adela still can make us laugh.  This morning she woke up a little before 8:00 AM and said, “I’m ready to get up for the day.  I want some ham now.”  And eat ham she has.  From morning till night, the only thing she’s eaten today is hospital
