Adela seems to be doing ok without the ventilator. They are very slowly weaning down the force of oxygen she is getting through her tubes. She slips between sleeping and slightly delirious from her meds. They are working on the weaning process for those as well. She is using her sign language and has tried
Adela was extubated at about 2:30 this afternoon and so far is doing fine. She is on a HFT cannula. Basically the nose tubes with warm air and a little extra oomph behind them. They will work her down to traditional ones when she’s ready. They are working with her on getting her to clear
They are preparing to extubate Adela later today (possibly 12 or 1) so they are weaning her down on her fentanyl and not giving her morning dose of anti-anxiety drug. They like them perky for extubation…they might get more than they bargained for! The PICU pharmacist also said the anti-fungal she is on could be
Adela is continuing to do well on the decreased ventilator settings and they are considering extabating sometime tomorrow. She is getting plenty of rest and seems relatively comfortable. All her blood numbers are looking good except for one enzyme that is related to bile production / gallbladder. They were able to get some images from
Just a quick note: They felt Adela was doing well on the last mode on her ventilator that they are stepping her down again to an even more independent mode – it is totally her breathing with just a little support to overcome the tube pressure and the computer will kick in if she does
As this is my first post to Adela’s blog, I’d like to say hello to everyone who reads this and to thank all our friends and family for their continued support, prayers, and well-wishes. Also, I have to extend a special “thank you” to Gary Rudd and everyone at the South East Durham Rudino’s. Before
Today’s post has been brought to you by Tough Ladybug – our mascot! Adela is having a pretty good day. Weekends tend to be uneventful in the PICU. They don’t like to rock the boat too much (because of less staff). She has had her narcotics reduced and is being given another weaker medicine.
Not a lot of news for today. Just keep on keeping on. She is tolerating her feeds well and digesting so far. They seemed to be impressed by her lung recovery and they have continued to wean her down on the ventilator. Just thought I would share a silly joke. When we were first admitted
I was sitting here keeping Adela company and started tinkering with the look of the site. I think she would really like the design I found, hope you all do too. On an update note: They have begun her g-tube feeding again. She has been getting some for the past 7 hours and they just
Adela’s x-ray this morning showed some improvement in her lungs (yeah!). However between the pressure setting on the ventilator and the fact the lungs were weaken during the incident the other morning she is/was leaking air into her chest cavity. They are weaning down the pressure and said she will reabsorb the air. However the
